YOGA – INTERMEDIATE with Nancy. In this alignment based yoga class, students learn a system of alignment from the feet up and each class incorporates asana (the physical postures), as well as yogic breathing. Poses in each class are specifically chosen to be appropriate for the class level. Nancy emphasizes core strength as a way to support the low back and to maintain integrity in the poses, and her goal is to foster a lifelong and sustainable practice that will support both emotional and physical health.
Students build strength through a mindful, focused, and carefully sequenced practice that emphasizes proper foundation in every pose. Each class has a different focus and theme; we may work on backbends, twists, forward bends, balancing poses, hip openers, inversions (handstands, etc.), flow sequences… The goal is not to adapt to a set routine, but to keep the body challenged and the mind alert.
In more flowing “vinyasa” sequences, students learn to maintain proper alignment both in the pose, and moving from one pose to the next. We also practice holding poses for longer periods in order to move more deeply into all aspects of a pose. The classes are taught in sessions, with each class building on the one before. Because of the session format, students have the opportunity to move safely into more challenging poses, and Nancy provides individual attention and assistance. This class is taught in a ten-week session, although drop-ins are welcome.
YOGA FOR BEGINNERS – with Nancy/Rachael. This one hour class is designed for beginners – those who are new to yoga and those who have not exercised in a while. Students focus on proper alignment and breathing. Neither “gentle” nor “power” yoga, students develop strength and flexibility gradually in a supportive setting with lots of individual attention. In more flowing “vinyasa” sequences, you will learn to maintain proper alignment both in the pose, and moving from one pose to the next, the transitions between poses being an important – an often neglected aspect of vinyasa practice. This class is taught in a ten-week session, although drop-ins are welcome.
EXTRA GENTLE YOGA – with Anne. Yoga done in healthy alignment is strengthening for the low back and supports the rest of the body as well. This class focuses on poses that provide release and relief for the low back, and gentle strengthening for the abdominal muscles, as well as gentle poses that emphasize strength and flexibility throughout the body. The emphasis is on mat and chair work, rather than on balancing or other standing poses – although a regular practice will improve balance and circulation as well. The class will address common mis-alignments and we will also go over ways you can modify your practice in your regular classes if you’re already experiencing pain in your low back or other areas. You’ll leave with the tools you need to sustain your yoga practice for many years to come. All levels are welcome! If you have underlying medical problems like high blood pressure or diabetes mellitus, we strongly recommend clearance from your medical provider prior to participating in this or any other physical activity. Class Pass or drop in.
GENTLE FLOW – with Anne. This gentle practice provides progressive yoga sequences that flow from one pose to the next, with a focus on maintaining proper alignment both in each pose, and in transitioning from one pose to the next. Students will learn to coordinate their movement with the breath to help attain balance in the mind and body. This class is held in a supportive setting with lots of individual attention, and is appropriate for beginners and for anyone at any level wishing to experience a gentle and joyful yoga practice. Class pass or drop in.
RESTORATIVE YOGA – with Paul. Restorative yoga is the practice of deliberate stillness and it brings harmony to the body’s rhythms. A gentle practice, it brings you to a state of “being,” as opposed to “doing,” where there is no movement, no effort, and the mind quiets. Props are used to place the body in comfortable, relaxing poses which are held for several minutes. Working this way enables the mind to clear, the breath to deepen, and the body to release into balance – the place where healing begins. A restorative practice complements more energetic practices and is perfect for all levels. Restorative yoga is especially healing for those who have high stress lives, and who suffer with injuries or physical challenges. Class pass or drop in.
TWILIGHT RESTORATIVE – with Paul. Please note: this class is suspended for the summer; we’ll see you again in the darker fall evenings! Restorative yoga is the practice of deliberate stillness – bringing harmony to the body’s rhythms. A gentle practice, it brings you to a state of “being,” as opposed to “doing,” where there is no movement, no effort, and the mind quiets. Restorative yoga can also aid the sleep process. When overstimulated by stress, we become agitated, which makes it difficult to fall asleep. This class will explore poses and techniques designed to relax the mind and body, allowing sound sleep. Props are used to place the body in comfortable, relaxing poses which are held for several minutes. Working this way enables the mind to clear, the breath to deepen, and the body to release into balance – the place where healing begins.
YOGA FOR ALL LEVELS – with Paul. Come join us for an all-levels dynamic-gentle class, a chance to breathe and move, release the tensions of the day and prepare for new endeavors. This class will be a complete body workout, with emphasis on the breath and safe alignment. In more flowing “vinyasa” sequences, you will learn to maintain proper alignment both in the pose and moving from one pose to the next, the transitions between poses being an important – and often neglected aspect – of vinyasa practice. Alignment, breath, movement, as well as longer holds in the poses make an all levels class suitable for everyone. Class pass or drop in.

VINYASA (also known as flow) – with Rachael/Anne/Marisa. This class utilizes the breath while incorporating postures into flowing sequences to attain balance in the mind and body. This class is suitable for all-levels and places importance on mobility and range of motion. You’ll be guided through a series of yoga postures, stretches, and mobility exercises with modifications appropriate for your fitness level. You can expect both stretching and strengthening movements following by a satisfying relaxation time. Class pass or drop-in.
YIN YOGA – with Anne is a slow paced style of yoga, where mostly seated and supine poses are typically held for 3-5 minutes. Yin focuses on the slow, patient, opening of the connective tissue (shrink wrap) that underlies the skin, wraps the muscles, and holds the bones together. It is a gentle, calming, and therapeutic practice that is appropriate for all levels and the perfect complement to a more active yoga practice or other exercise regimen. Come unwind and dig deep into your connective tissues! THIS CLASS IF FREE AND MEETS ONLY THE 2ND FRIDAY OF EVERY MONTH!
